Applies the first row of loops to a knitting needle?
To apply the first row of loops to a knitting needle, follow these steps:
- Hold the knitting needle in your dominant hand. The other hand will manipulate the yarn and loops.
- Take the working yarn and hold it in your non-dominant hand, leaving a tail of about 6 inches.
- Insert the knitting needle into the first stitch of the row on the left-hand needle. The right-hand needle should now be behind the left-hand needle.
- Using the yarn in your non-dominant hand, bring it to the front of the work. The working yarn should be placed between the two needles.
- With your dominant hand, loop the working yarn over the right-hand needle from back to front. This creates a new loop or stitch on the right-hand needle.
- Gently pull the right-hand needle and the new loop through the stitch on the left-hand needle. The new loop should pass through the old loop and rest on the right-hand needle.
- Drop the old stitch off the left-hand needle, allowing it to unravel downwards until the new loop is the only loop on the right-hand needle.
- Repeat steps 3-7 for each stitch in the first row, moving from left to right along the row.
- Once all the stitches are on the right-hand needle, you have completed the first row of loops on the knitting needle.
